Size: (Following my instructions) 9 1/2" unfinished. 9" finished. (Using templates included) 14 1/2" unfinished 14" finished.

Materials: You will need a light fabric for background. A print and solid in different values of the same color for flowers. 1/4 yard will make more then one block but not a whole quilt.

Directions: Cut two 2 1/2" strip from each fabric and one 3 1/2" strip from each fabric (the 3 1/2 strips are for method one only.)

For the four patch units you will sew a light and solid together, a light and print together and a solid and print together. From the light solid you will need to cut four 2 1/2" pieces from sewn strips. Same for the light and print fabric. From the print solid strips you will need two 2 1/2" pieces. Taking your light and solids sew two together right sides facing, solid to white, make sure to match seam lines. Repeat this for the other ligth and solid. Sew the light and print pieces the same way. You will have two sets of four patches of both of these. You will also sew the print and solid pieces the same way for one set of the four patch.

Star Points:

Method 1: (beginner) This requires a Tri-Recs template set. From the light 3 1/2" strip using the Tri template set this up on the 3 1/2 line and cut four triangles. From the print and solid 3 1/2" strip, using the Recs template. Have the fabric folded in 1/2 lengthwise. This will make both the regular point and the mirror imaged point. Line up the Recs template on the 3 1/2" line, you will cut two of these from both solid and print. (If fabric is folded you will actually have four pieces.

Use diagram for placement of all pieces and sew together.

Method 2: (Expert. This is a bit harder but does work.) From the light fabric cut four 4 3/8" squares. Fold in half and finger press. You will be making a triangle from these by cutting from the center fold at bottom of square to outside upper corner. From both print and solid cut two each 8 3/8" X 2 1/8" rectangles. with right sides together cut diagonally from corner to corner. This makes all four of the star points needed. Using the piecing diagram lay all pieces out. Sew the star points to the triangles. Once this is done you will need to square up to a 3 1/2" square evenly. Sew block together.

If you would prefer you can use the included templates for all pieces, including the four patch. This is a two page (seperate pages) template group. First page will have the link for the 2nd page. 1/4" Seam allowances have been added. Print page for full size pattern.
